Lammas - August 1

Lammas (also called Lughnassadh, Bread Harvest) is a day which marks the first day of the Celtic autumn and the beginning of the harvest season. Lammas was the medieval Christian name for the holiday, when loaves of bread, baked from the first wheat, were laid on altars as offerings. Lammas is a time of joy and fulfillment.

Lughnassadh is the first of three harvests within the sabbats of Western European Paganism.  It is focused on the Celtic god Lugh, the harvest of grain, and the beginning of sacrifice when the fruits of the Earth are harvested and stored for the coming winter months.
