Summer Solstice - Litha - June 20 - 23On this day in the Northern Hemisphere, the length of daylight is at its maximum. This is a time to just relish the long daylight hours while we can, knowing that beginning the next day the nights will get longer and winter will come once again. Also, there are people who observe the Pagan religions who celebrate the day with a "joyous formality," with exuberant festivals, games, dancing, as well as many quiet reflective moments. They get together with friends to enjoy the bounty of the embracing warmth of the earth and universe while perhaps enjoying a feast of fruits and crops from the spring planting. Litha festivities encourage us to celebrate the sun's life-giving warmth and our own ability to make things grow. With its radiant solar images and fiery colors everywhere, Litha urges us to abandon ourselves to the joy of this peak moment. To learn more about the Summer Solstice - Litha, click here. |
